Take advantage of these online services while in your jammies

SOMEONE GOT A PET FOR CHRISTMAS!

It’s always an exciting time when a new dog or cat joins the family — but don’t forget that once you’ve acquired your new furry friend, you have 30 days to get it registered. As a responsible pet owner, make sure you know the rules:

• Pets must wear a numbered metal tag provided through the City’s licensing system
• Dog and cat licences expire each year on Jan. 1 and must be renewed before that date
• The maximum penalty for an unlicenced pet is $5,000
• The total number of animals allowed per household is six, with no more than three dogs or three cats

OOPS: PARKING TICKET.

Finding parking during the holidays can sometimes be a mission. But what’s worse than parking frustrations? A parking infraction. Here are some common parking no-no’s:

• Parking longer than three hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
• Parking on any street in Vaughan between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
• Parking in a fire route
• Parking over a sidewalk
• Parking in such a way as to obstruct snow removal
• Parking with left wheels to curb
• Parking in a disabled spot without a valid permit

If you’ve got a computer, a credit card and a little white slip, then paying that parking ticket is as easy as one click. All you have to do is go online, enter the ticket information and hit submit — and you’re done!

PARKING TICKET: AVERTED.

Many of us have family and friends that come from out of town and stay overnight during the holidays. But while you’re thinking about dinner preparations, gift and cookie exchanges, who’s thinking ahead about parking permits?

Don’t sweat. The City of Vaughan makes it easy for you to get a visitor parking permit online and in seconds. Here’s what you’ll need:

• The residential address of the place being visited
• The guest’s vehicle information, including licence plate number and car make/model
• A printer

Remember, visitor permits are for overnight parking beginning at 2 a.m. So if your guest is arriving on Dec. 24 and staying overnight, you’ll need a permit for overnight on-street parking on Dec. 25. For more information about permits, visit the FAQ page on vaughan.ca.

REPORT A CITY ROAD ISSUE OR PUBLIC WORKS SERVICE.

The City of Vaughan’s Public Works department has an online reporting tool that allows you to report any issue related to:

• Catch basins and manholes
• Curbs and sidewalks
• Hydrants
• Litter, debris and graffiti
• Ponding on roads
• Potholes
• Road signs
• Streetlights
• Traffic and pedestrian signals
• Water shutoff/curb box

The reporting form is easy to fill out, and there’s an optional section to include any details related to your report. Check it out. It’s just a click away.

STOP WASTE COLLECTION CONFUSION.

Not sure which day is waste collection on your street? Use the City’s online waste collection lookup tool. Simply enter your address and retrieve a printable version of your collection schedule. It will even tell you when to put out your Christmas tree for pickup.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HOLIDAY WASTE COLLECTION.

Waste collections scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 25 will be picked up one day later on Friday, Dec. 26. Waste collections scheduled for Friday, Dec. 26 will be picked up one day later on Saturday, Dec. 27. Waste collections scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 1 will be picked up one day later on Friday, Jan. 2. Waste collections scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2 will be picked up one day later on Saturday, Jan. 3.
