Why niche marketing?
You can never have a large enough marketing budget. No matter how large a company is, there is always more that can be done to increase marketing efforts and reach a greater share of its target market faster.

Rather than over exhausting budgets on marketing, most companies — big and small — direct their marketing to select niche audiences. Marketing budgets go a lot further when focused on niche markets because it allows you to advertise with greater frequency and use more comprehensive media.

Avoid the risk of “spreading yourself too thin” or saying that everybody is your potential client. With niche marketing, you’ll focus on a specific group of people and their specific needs and wants.

The three keys to niche marketing
Niche marketing involves three key rules:

  1. Meet the unique needs of your target market. The benefits you promise must appeal to the market niche. Identify the unique needs of your audience and look for ways to tailor your product or service to meet them.
  2. Say the right thing. Understand the market’s “hot buttons” and communicate with the target group as an understanding member — not an outsider. It is vital to understand the key issues impacting the group you target, as well as how they prefer to communicate with companies like yours.
  3. Test-market. Before moving into a new market niche, assess your competition and determine how you will position your company against them. Test-marketing allows companies to gauge the market’s receptiveness to your product or service and message.
